Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. I hope my books have inspired you... made you laugh, cry, or triggered any other emotion to take you away from your reality. At the same time, I'm pretty sure you've connected with at least one of the characters. I consider myself a hidden gem in the urban industry, and I love to pen novels with twists, as you can tell from my published manuscripts to date. I'm only going up from here. Anything urban fiction, I want you, as the reader, to experience from my imagination.
As a wife, mother of four, and glammma, life is hectic. Everyone has their own schedules, but I somehow am intertwined in each of their lives in ways they cannot do without. LOL! Although life throws its curveballs, I'm forever thankful and blessed.
I battle many health issues ranging from idiopathic thrombocytopenia to high blood pressure, hidradenitis suppurativa, and many, many others, including a very extensive and long battle with Lupus. I'm winning though, and every day above ground is one I will not complain.
Outside of catering to family, I'm pretty much a homebody... always have been since a child. For the most part, there's nothing I can do in the streets that cannot be done at home. My creativity doesn't come from current situations - going places that put me in the mood to write. It's all from experience... and I pen it with a twist.
My start in the industry came from editing. When I started editing in 2014, I'll be the first to admit... I didn't know what I was doing. I thought because I knew how to spell and 'assumed' I knew punctuation, I could edit a book. The joke was on me. It took at least two years for me to finally consider myself even good enough to be a proofreader, and now, I know I'm an editor. I wear the title proudly... but that wasn't and isn't my dream.
Even as a child, I knew I wanted to write. My creativity teetered from writing poems to writing music. In 2013, I started penning a novel that, to this date, is still not published. I allowed fear to hold me back from pursuing writing. But as long as I was in the industry, even if it was as an editor, I was fine, right? Wrong. That desire never went away.
The year 2017, speaking with Treasure Malian, I pushed my fear to the side and said, "I think I can do this." She allowed me the opportunity to publish a short story in an anthology with her company. What happened? The readers fell in love with Sparkle Lewis - the pen name I wrote under at the time. My real break into the industry came in when I signed with Major Key Publishing.
For some reason... I wasn't satisfied, and it showed. My writing wasn't consistent, I wouldn't promote myself, and as much as I thought I knew about the industry, I knew nothing. It had nothing to do with the publisher... it was me. I felt I couldn't connect with the name 'Sparkle Lewis' and wanted to write using my name... but the industry only knew me as the editor, not the author... and now, that's all many accept me as, but...
Allow me to reintroduce myself...
I'm determined that you will know 'Latisha the Authoress' as more than just an editor. I pushed my dreams of writing to the back burner for too long. It's time to release all these crazy people from my head. LOL! They have stories to tell, and I'm glad you, as the readers, have enjoyed them so far. I can't say the consistency will be great, because balance writing with my other obligations is very tedious. What I can tell you is I'm more focused, but I will always believe in quality over quantity. The past few years, I've been worried about getting my name out there. Now I'm focused on it ringing bells!
